Things To Do With Your Kids In Dallas Over Break
CHECK OUT THIS LIST OF THINGS TO DO WITH YOUR KIDS IN DALLAS WHILE CLAIRE’S DAY SCHOOL IS ON BREAK BEFORE THE FALL SEMESTER!
After an amazing Summer at our new location, we are taking a quick break to prepare for the upcoming Fall semester, but that doesn’t mean you’re on your own when it comes to fun things to do with your kids while on break! Here is a list of activities that are kid-friendly to keep your kids entertained until we take them off your hands again.
1. Wildcat Fun Zone
Located at the Lake Highlands North Recreation Center, this hidden little gem is an indoors easy activity gym and only $3 per kid. Your kid can play with other kids while you can sit and talk with you friends… a great place for a play date! For kids up to age 5.
2. Playstreet Museum
With locations in Lake Highlands and Plano, this interactive experience features a bunch of toys that you can play with your kids. A great place if you are getting a bit stir crazy and need the little ones to burn off some energy.
3. Klyde Warren Park – Kids Area
This park, located over the busy Woodall Rodgers Freeway bridging Uptown and Downtown Dallas, is a fun experience available free to the public. The sectioned off kids area is packed with activities for the kids. Smart parents bring a change of clothes and a swim diaper so there are no limits to how much fun you can have when including the spray area. For a cool down after, grab an ice cream from one of the food trucks and take a stroll through the DMA’s free permanent collection, while your kid naps in the stroller.
4. Dallas Public Library – Multiple Locations
Your local Dallas Public Library branch is an excellent resource for getting out of the house with kids. Each branch has a kids area stocked with blocks, puzzles, computers, interactive games and of course books! Ask your librarian for story & crafts scheduled times, often held on weekday mornings.
5. Perot Museum of Nature and Science
While the whole Perot Museum can be a bit daunting with toddlers, the lower level has a great large interactive play area, perfect for curious minds that can learn while playing. Note that admission is a bit expensive and is usually crowded, so it helps to have a membership or know someone who does.
6. Dallas World Aquarium
Get lost in the world of birds, amphibians and water-bound creatures at the Dallas World Aquarium. The aquarium offers an educational and fun outlet to keep your kids engaged as they walk from exhibit to exhibit.
7. Dallas Arboretum and Botanical Garden: Children’s Garden
The recently opened Children’s Garden at the Dallas Arboretum is a kids wonderland, overlooking White Rock Lake. After some energy has burned off at the Children’s Garden, take a stroll to the adjoining arboretum, with 11 display gardens over 66 acres, the Dallas Arboretum is a great way to spent the afternoon outdoors with your kids. Be sure to bring your camera so you can snap a few shots of the kids in the seasonal floral scenery.
8. Swim Lessons
Use this time to get your kid involved in a swimming crash course, where they can go swimming multiple days in a row and start to get the hang of being in the water. There are multiple schools such as Emler’s Swim School or your local YMCA.
9. The Little Gym
This chain of gyms available across the DFW metroplex offers a fun supervised group play environment.
10. Splash pads
With this Texas heat, Dallas knows how important it is to incorporate splash pads and public fountains around the city. Click the link for a list of spots to take your kids to cool off and have fun while on break!
11. Play Dates
Pull out your Claire’s Directory and call the mom of the kid your kid keeps talking about. Most likely, they are in the same boat as you, looking to break the monotony of long summer days and keep their kid entertained. This is a great way to make friends, not only for the kids, but parents as well. Any of these activities included in this post are more fun with friends. Also, you could have them over to try out your backyard amusement park!
We at Claire’s Day School hope that this list is helpful in thinking of things to do with your kids over the break and look forward to having your little ones back for the Fall Semester! Keep an eye out for more blog posts to come about back-to-school and other moments at Claire’s Day School.
