Keeping Your Toddler Healthy This School Year
FALL IS UPON US – AND SO IS FLU SEASON! TAKE THESE STEPS TO HELP PREVENT YOUR CHILD GETTING SICK THIS SCHOOL YEAR.
Your child getting sick is inevitable, especially when they are being reintroduced to germs they may not have come into contact with over the Summer. Not to mention, cold & flu season is upon us, and the colder temperatures do not help. While there is no way to guarantee your child won’t fall ill, there are a few steps you can take that will help give all children at Claire’s Day School the best chance at staying healthy this season.
Getting Enough Sleep
Being well rested helps promote a healthy immune system and can put your child in better health to fight off any germs. Make sure you have a solid routine in place when it comes to bedtime so that your child is fully rested and ready to take on a day of fighting off germs!
Healthy Diet & Nutrition
Much like a well rested body, a properly nourished body is also better at fighting off sickness. Be sure your child is getting all of the protein and vitamins they need to stay healthy, and if you notice any sniffles or coughs, incorporate more Vitamin C and D into their meals with citrus fruits and/or children’s vitamin gummies. These lil’ critters gummies are a great option!
Proper Hand-Washing
Instilling good hand wash habits into your kid at a young age helps in killing germs before they can turn into sickness. Showing your kids how to wash their hands properly (maybe by teaching them to sing their ABC’s while they wash or another way to determine the proper length), as well as practicing regular hand-washing habits such as before a meal, after a meal, coming in from outside and so on will squash those germs in their tracks.
Staying Hydrated
Making sure your child is drinking enough water is also one of the basic, but crucial keys to staying healthy. Sending them to Claire’s Day School with a cup they enjoy drinking out of will help make sure they are hydrated at school, but always be sure to include a big glass with every meal at home and away.
Wash School/Lunch Gear Regularly
If you send your child to Claire’s Day School with a lunchbox and/or backpack, be sure to wash lunchboxes every day and backpacks at least once a week to prevent spreading germs from Claire’s Day School to your home, and vice-versa. Lunchboxes especially can carry all kinds of germs from children eating next to each other. Cleaning them regularly with anti-bacterial soap will prevent them from getting into your home and on your child’s meal the next day.
Getting The Flu Shot
Having your pediatrician give your child, and yourself, this seasons flu shot is another great way to fight against flu season. Here’s an article on why you should get your flu shot this season.
